Willys and Hellen the 2 co-founders of Maya Health met in 2013 when Willys while leading a local Rotaract Club in Nairobi, invited Dr Hellen, then a maternal health researcher to talk to his members about the HPV virus and how it can cause cervical cancer. Over subsequent years, they discussed about creating a sex education course, because of all the talk of banning sex-related topics and information from schools at that time in Kenya.
9 years later, Willys after completing his MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and mentoring a small NGO working with Intersex persons (where he met Dr. Wamalwa), founded Maya Health and invited Hellen and Wamalwa to join him in building a tech-enabled platform that would help the Sexual and Reproductive Health ecosystem work for the tech-savvy demographic while empowering other organisations in that space to embrace technology to enhance their work.
Maya Health uses a widely used platform (WhatsApp) to disseminate SRH (Sexual and Reproductive Health ) information as well as connect users to their nearest resources. This enables them to make well-informed decisions about their sexual health.
We are on a mission to democratise Sexual and Reproductive Health by ensuring everyone has all the right information at the right time with accessible resources closest to them.
