Sexual & Reproductive Health Information

We link organizations that work in sexual and reproductive health from both public and private sectors using a technology platform that shares this information with people where they are- on their mobile phones.

Sexual & Reproductive Health Resources

We’ve collected information and resources for sexual and reproductive health, such as counseling services, consultations, and product providers, from all over the country to help connect users to the nearest resource available to them.

Our Technology

We chose WhatsApp to share information and connect people to resources because it’s widely used in Kenya, with 97% of the digital population having access to it. It’s a versatile tool for sharing information on the continent and is a good way to get important information and resources to people who need it, especially when it comes to a topic that affects a large portion of the population in Africa.

FAQs

1. What is Maya Health?

We have built a platform that connects all organisations working in the Sexual and Reproductive fields to provide either information or products, to curate a catalog of information and resources to enable you to make better sexual and reproductive health decisions. All this through a whatsapp chatbot.

2. What problem are you solving?

We understand that there is information asymmetry when different organisations working in the same space do not collaborate. We are building a platform that brings all these players together to curate a similar message and compile a list of available resources and help amplify this singular message for greater impact.

3. Why WhatsApp?

In Kenya alone, WhatsApp has a penetration of 99% of internet users.  Africa has also experienced high penetration levels of the messenger app with Nigeria and South Africa as well as Egypt leading the way. Instead of building an App and working to convince people to download it, we decided to build a chatbot on top of whatsapp which is already on people’s phones with simple functionality that acts as an app.

We are leveraging already existing infrustructure to deliver our message.

4. Why now?

With the world population almost at 8 Billion people and technology fast changing, we felt it was time to meet the youth where they are, online. We are building this platform to be a technology partner to not only the many organisations doing SRH work across the continent but also to a trusted source of information for youth when making decisions for themselves.

5. Where do you operate?

We are currently launched in Kenya with ambitions to expand across East Africa in 2023.

6. I am a service provider. How can I get involved?

We would love to work with you and amplify your message. Kindly fill out the form on the Service providers section above.

7. I am a Parent of teenagers. How do I start this conversation?

We understand that it is difficult to bring up such a sensitive topic to your young ones. We are currently building content on how to talk about sex for individuals between 10-14 years. If you would like to be alerted when this content is ready kindly send us a note on the contact page.

8. I have a cool idea that you should try.

Great! We are open to new learning especially when it comes to content you would like to see us making. Kindly send us a message on our contact page with your idea.

9. I would like to become a peer educator. How do I do that?

This is awesome. We are currently building a peer educator program that will provide benefits to both the organisation and to you. Kindly go through the chatbot and investigate the content and send a note through the local resources section. We will get back to you in the soonest possible time.
